Coffee, freshly roasted to order
We’re pretty famous for our espresso and filter blends, and they’re enjoyed every day right across the region in our brilliant family of cafe’s, pubs, restaurants and offices. Almost twenty million shots of our award winning Northwest Espresso was drunk last year in Hertfordshire and we’re reliably informed that our Stag Espresso is the most popular coffee on-set with the UK film industry!
Every batch is roasted under the watchful eye of one of our craft roasters, using traditional machinery and techniques and whilst we don’t turn the drum by hand anymore, it’s still a really hands on way of roasting coffee.
We believe that our passion for craft roasting, our small batch roasters and our determination to find the best produce for our customers all contribute to something great in the cup that we’re very proud of.
We currently import from 47 producers across Central and Southern America, Africa, Asia and Australasia and have developed relationships that ensure sustainable incomes for the growers, and great quality for us. We import coffee from all over the world. At the last count, we had 47 coffees from different farms and co-operatives in Central and Southern America, Africa, Asia and Australasia too!
Whilst much of the coffee we buy goes into our award winning blends, we also search out coffees which taste great on their own. We call these coffees single origin.
Single Origin coffee to us means that it comes from one grower and that we can trace it all the way back to the plant and tell the stories of the brilliant people that grew it, where they live and what makes their coffee so special to us.
Coffee is much like wine, in that growing region, seasons, temperature, altitude varieties and terroir all play a part influencing the flavours in your cup.
Every region has something different to offer, and our job as roasters is to use our skills to bring out the best in the crop, doing justice to all that hard work put into growing it
We want to find the perfect balance of sweetness, body and acidity, and if we find something really special – to enhance it.
Every few days we roast a different single origin, just one small batch at a time. Stocks are limited, and they fly off the shelves in Ware – so we’ll let you know in our newsletters every time we roast a new one
